Camp Auditorium 1

Camp Massawippi Auditorium

Since 1951, Camp Massawippi has provided generations of children and youth with physical disabilities with a summer sleep-away camp experience like no other. When the Camp needed to undertake major renovations to its auditorium last year, the community stepped up and showed in support.

For more than 65 years, the auditorium has been one of the focal points of Camp. This central building is where campers hold many of their social gatherings, rehearse and stage their music and drama performances, participate in adapted dance, and hold adapted sports activities on rainydays. For many of campers, these activities are rare opportunities to experience the performing arts they don’t otherwise have access to. With a wheelchair accessible stage, all drama performances are held in this building.

In 2017, a special campaign was launched to secure $300,000 to revamp the auditorium, as well to upgrade the access ramp and pathway, as well as the accessible washrooms.

Thanks to many wonderful donors, including Fondation Jeunesse-Vie, the Molson Foundation, Power Corporation of Canada, Bannerman Family Foundation, Cascades, and many generous individuals, the auditorium will continue to provide magic and memories to hundreds of special needs campers, for generations to come.
