Special Projects

Special Projects are one-time initiatives, typically of significant size and scope, that bring long-term value and improve the over-all quality of service available to clients and their families. Habilitas Foundation works closely with partners to identify these undertakings and works along side them throughout the process to ensure that every generously donated dollar is used efficiently and responsibly.

Current & Ongoing

Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre annual funding

As the official foundation of Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay, Habilitas provides more than $1 million in funding annually to the rehabilitation centre, to maintain excellence and to sustain essential programs in critical areas not funded by the government.

Technology, renovations and capital projects

Beyond Habilitas Foundation’s support for the ongoing programs and services at our partners, we assist with the acquisition of essential technology, therapy tools, and important capital projects. Thanks to donor support, the foundation ensures that the Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Centre, Camp Massawippi and Action Centre remain at the forefront of care for people with sensory and physical disabilities.

A $2.5 million project to create a fully-accessible and barrier-free “Inclusive Playground,” giving children with physical and sensory disabilities the same opportunities that students in mainstream schools enjoy. A place where they can socialize, explore, discover – and work on essential therapy goals. Most importantly, a place to play – a basic human right of childhood.

New Pediatric Therapy Gym at Mackay Site (Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Centre)

Modernization of the main therapy gym for children where a cross-disciplinary team works with children born with neuro-motor and multiple physical impairments on therapies that are essential to their development.

New Leading-Edge Pediatric Low Vision Clinic

Research has shown that 85% of a baby’s learning comes from visual cues. This new clinic features a state-of-the-art vision evaluation room; a dark room for special assessments as well as skills training in eye tracking with optical fibers and lights; and a simulated classroom (the first of its kind in Quebec) for the training in pre-academic skills.
